This is a collection of curious, fantastic, and amazing stories, which the Mandaeans used to tell on special occasions such as at a wedding, New Year festivities, a family gathering, and invitations, for it was (and still is) a great honour to summon guests and entertain them with some narratives of olden times. In these stories the main focus is the fact that life always faces the potential for prolonged and/or disastrous conflict with one’s neighbours, strangers and the wider community. Their origin clearly derives from both ancient periods up to the 20th century, showing how human predicaments remain much the same, whatever sociopolitical regime may be in charge.
