Carlos Gelbert
Carlos Gebert is an independent author and publisher. He has been a member of the Australian Publishers-association since 2011. In 2000 Carlos Gelbert became the first author to translate the GINZA RBA from the German language into modern Arabic. In 2011 he was once again the first to translate this holy book of the Mandaeans from the Aramaic into English. This book was published in the same year (2011), and includes the complete and comprehensive introduction of Mark Lidzbarski as well as all of his footnotes, explanations and commentaries.
Born in Iraq, he fled Saddam Hussein’s regime to settle in Germany initially. His background as a teacher and occupational therapist for many years in a school for bodily disabled students in Germany gave him a useful and humanitarian perspective when he began his literary career as author and translator. He published three books in the German language and two in Arabic. He is also an editor and poet.
Carlos Gelbert writes in three living languages: English, German and Arabic: fiction and non-fiction. Most of his books are displayed on this Web-Site. His last book, launched recently (October 2023), written in English, bears the title “The Key to All of the Mysteries of the Ginza Rba”.
